Was there a toner spill or dusting problem?
Usually if your getting that error, then there is a little board in the back of the laser unit that goes bad... First, make sure that all the glass in the laser unit is cleaned and there is no obstruction along the laser path. If all fails then it may be that board.

Don't forget that the front door switches can also cause this problem...

If the LD detector board has been covered in toner, it's had it. Replaced the LD detector unit and laser emitter, sorted.

I had a bad spill on a 3035 that killed the laser. After one laser unit and a couple hours of cleaning the machine started working again.

Start with ZeusGT's advice and inspect the door switches near the fusing unit. Then look at replacing laser parts.

Here are some part numbers.
Laser Unit - B298 1870

Laser Diode - B298 1891
Laser Sync Detector - B213 5320
Polygon Motor - AX06 0303
