Told you its a turkey!

Try cleaning the sub scan encoder, thats the rotary clear mylar disk on the front end of the print unit. Use metho then wipe it down then clean it with a dry soft cloth as even the stain left by evaporating methalated spirits will upset the opto sensor that counts all those little bars on the disk. If that dosnt work you may be in for a new print engine that costs about 75% of a new copier.

Do the right thing and try to get he customer to upgrade to MP C2000, its a real copier and works!

From what I remember on the training course on this machine....

DON'T USE SOLVENTS ON THE ENCODERS!!!!

Apparently they have some sort of coating on them. Our trainer was very specific on this... use water, water, some more water then a bit more water to do ALL cleaning jobs on these fellas. The gel is water soluble.

Don't mean to sound arsey, just what we were told

I would test the sub scan motor using the output test first to see if there is any kind of movement at all.
If the motor works then proceed to carefully check the edge of the encoder for damage and check the encoder sensor.
(motor, encoder disc and encoder sensor all pictured above).
