    Question 2027 HDD removal

Hello, I have a 2027 that was equipped with a document server. I am selling it to a customer who will not be using this feature. I removed the HDD so I would not have to replace it if it fails. I'm getting a service code 870 (Startup without HD connection at main power on) I need to disable it. I've looked through the service tables and changed SP5967 to Document server cannot be used. Still getting error. Thanks .....Ant

I think on the 2022 & 2027 machines, you have to have the HDD in. The 1022 & 1027, the HDD was an option.

Are there any other options (fax, print, scan) on the machine as well? Try SP 5-871, though I DO NOT guarantee that the machine will still work correctly after using this SP. It is a DFU setting but it overrides all HDD functions...
I'd just leave the HDD in it and let it be happy. A regular 80 GB laptop drive will replace it quite nicely if it fails...

    2027 HDD removal

Hello, Thanks for the reply. The machine has scan print & fax. I guess I can put the drive back in. I just wanted to avoid any service calls I don't need as the machine will be under contract. I'll keep looking. Thanks....Ant

The machine needs the HDD for the optional features so you pretty much can't do without it.

    Hy,
you must have HDD if you have scann option on machine.
Print and fax option works without HDD.

    2027 HDD removal

Ok I put the hdd back in. No more error. I have worked on a lot of 1022/1027s but not any 2022/2027s. Thanks for the replys. Don't fix it if it's not broke. Thanks again......Ant.

Worst case is you have to buy a new HDD someday but that doesn't hurt unless you buy it as an official spare from Ricoh
Cheers Jan Sommer ....and pardon my English^^

Buy a used EIDE 20 GB hard drive from a used computer store and make both customers happy.
If you remove the HDD you will lose duplex and sorting features.
The most difficult problem has the SIMPLEST solution.
The hardest problem is FINDING that simple solution.

Ditto.. just get a formatted spare HDD and save it for when the copier kills the original HDD.. That's what I've been doing.. If you don't want to absorb the cost of a new HDD then include that into your contract with the customer that they will be responsible for the HDD, but they're too cheap to try that stunt.
