    Selecting Simple (Limitation)
If you select [Simple (Limitation)], you can specify clients for which printer job authentication is not required.
Specify [Parallel Interface: Simple], [USB: Simple] and the IPv4 address range in which printer job authentication is not required of client. Specify this setting if you want to print using unauthenticated printer drivers or without any printer driver. Authentication is required for printing with non-specified devices.
If you select [Simple (Limitation)], you can print even with unauthenticated printer drivers or devices. Specify this setting if you want to print with a printer driver or device that cannot be identified by the device or if you do not require authentication for printing. However, note that, because the device does not require authentication in this case, it may be used by unauthorized users.
    1. Press [Simple (Limitation)].

    1. Press [Change].

    1. Specify the range in which [Simple (Limitation)] is applied to "Printer Job Authentication".
You can specify the IPv4 address range to which this setting is applied, and whether or not to apply the setting to the parallel and USB interfaces.

    1. Press [Exit].

    1. Press [OK].

    1. Press [Exit].

    1. Press the [User Tools/Counter] key.

I haven't tried this yet, but here's what was in the knowledge base.

And that is what does not work. I have access to TSC and all the knowledge bases as well. I have also escalated this to Ricoh who have no idea. Also, we have gotten this to work on a 90 series machine but it will not work on any color models.

I have run into problems before, like this, were the set up examples in the user manuals were wrong or just to plain complicated. Only after walking outside, beating my head on the concrete and coming back did I realize what was going on.

Anyway, just thinking out loud. And thanks to "netsrvs" for posting this topic, because I bet there are others that don't know about this feature. Which in the end my be a good thing, since it doesn't seem to work!!

The first law states that energy is conserved: The change in the internal energy is equal to the amount added by heating minus the amount lost by doing work on the environment.

The only problem with PC Control is that you aren't really limiting who can print. With that option it will automatically add user codes to the system as people enter them, leaving it completely up to the user.

I'm going to have to say it's a firmware problem at this point since it works on B&W 90 series machines. I have the C5050 & C3333 models configured identically but it will not work. The only difference of course is that we are limiting color instead of B&W.....perplexed!

    Solution

This option can only be used when sending data from a non-savin supported print driver. Basically the machine has to realize that the print driver CAN'T support codes and it prints. So you can try this with an HP4 driver or something and it works fine.

This same case is true with the Virtual Printer option on the newer Richo's. Jobs sent to the Virtual Printer you create must not be from Ricoh drivers to take advantage of any options that you may have defaulted.

    Confusing?

Yes, and seemingly pointless. I'm searching for a reason not to use the correct drivers. AS400 or mainframe printing? That's about all I can come up with as a likely reason to use this function.
