Ricoh af3245C Dog Ear Fold Problem

Anyone have any suggestions? Ideas? Strange pagan gods to sacrifice small animals too? Thankfully this is an in shop copier, but the boss is pressuring me to get it figured out so we can get it out in the field.

    duplex mylars

I have seen this problem many times. First the fuser issue the dimples in the belt is the hot roller underneath the belt disintegrating and will not last long. I think the dogearing is being caused by the mylars in the duplex. Dismount the duplex, remove duplex cover, open duplex door , you will see an approximately 1 inch metal curved paper guide, which is held on by two screws one on each side, the guilty ones are usually the copper colored ones underneath the guide plate. they must not stick out even a little they will catch any paper and the worse the paper curl the worse it gets. You may be able to peel them off and bend them backwards for temporary relief but I replace them all (cheap part all my techs carry 10 or so for this problem).Hope this helps.

      Hi
I know I'm asking the obvious, but have you had a look at the gate at the bottom of B1/2 door next to the fuser? The one that sends it up out of the machine or down to the duplex?
Just a thought, as you say the paper is curling on the way into the duplex
      Cheers

It can't be the fuser if you have fitted one from another machine

good call on the fuser, might be the hot roller the bearings are not looking thier best. Have done all the mylars and have even Ive fitted the Duplex unit in question onto another machine and tested without a dog ear in site. Ive fitted a duplex unit from a know good machine onto the 3245 in question and the dog ears remain.

I did look at the B1/2 door, didnt see anything ovbious but since you mention it I will give it the fine tooth comb treatment on the morrow. Didnt even occur to me that this is where the problem might lie as there is never any touble with simplex copies/prints. I think I might even try swapping it with one from the good machine. Thank the lords of Kobol that i have easy access to 2 Machines atm. (no way the admin gilrs need to print anything much at this time of year, stock taking is way over rated)

But But but ok maybe i was grasping at straws. your probably right in it not being the fuser.

Id like to say these dog ears are turning me barking mad, bit I wont yet stoop so low.

Unless the fuser from the other machine was knackered too. Do you change the fuser parts on schedule or run everything to failure?

Ok finaly got a chance of getting back to this machine, to many service calls and random installs of late.

Our policy is to replace parts as close to thier PM cycle as I can. I replaced the fuser with a newly rebuilt one.

I just replaced the B1/2 exit door and tested the machine without any change to the dog earing problem.

              Any other suggestions?

                  Hi Neergish,
This is probably a long shot but if you haven't sorted the problem yet. Just check the bottom right hand side cover door (feed path cover) is properly closed on both sides. I had a similar problem on a brand new mc and found the dog ears were being caused by the cover not being closed on the far side. It was not bringing up a cover open msg either.

But when I physically pushed cover in the middle and close the door end of problem. Might just be a coincidence that you get them while duplexing.

                  Good Luck

If nothing else is working, try opening the duplex door, unscrew the black covers with the rollers, check to see if they all roll freely.you can also reform the springs to add more tension.if it makes one sided copies without any dogears, then its in that stupid roller section.
