SR790 Finisher

I am working on a SR790 finisher that is attached to a Gestetner 645. I have searched with no success but did see a post about jams in this finisher.

The problem I am having is it appears that when it staples, it is not stapling the whole packet. It jumps around one time it will staple 7 pages of a 15 pg packet next attempt will only do 4 and so on.

I have tried a new cartridge out of a working machine and still the same problem. I am thinking that either it is stapling too soon ie before all pages make it in the jogger or maybe the pages are not falling into place in the jogger? Reason is that the staples are being closed and the pages behind where its closing are not being affected. Is there an easy way to check this? Or has anyone else ran into this problem before.

Thanks for any and all help.

Cheat the finisher door switch and watch it run. I have had to oil the jogger rails because they bind a bit, causing this problem.

I have seen this before, too. The sponge actually separates from the plastic hub causing stapling problems and/or misfeeds.

Where and what kind of oil did you use for this?

Thanks for all the info, I will be looking at this today so now I have some insight on what else to look for.

Cheating the front door is the easiest. Also the customer likes to watch with you. I had one yesterday where the mylar was bent

Thanks again for all the info. I looked at the Mylar strips and they are not bent. When I cheated the door I could see that the paper was not falling down into place but the joggers appeared to be moving just fine. From what I could see it looked like the roller was not pushing the page down into place after the first few. And of course once one got stuck the rest after that did as well.

I have ordered up a roller and will be putting that in on next trip out there. Hopefully that resolves it. Thanks again for all the help will let you know if the roller fixes it.

Well an update on this. I was able to finally look at the machine late last week again and got the roller (Customer not using right now). The roller was worn so I went ahead and replaced it but it is still jamming.

The trailing edge of the paper appears to be curling too much, so much that when it gets pushed down its catching on the bottom rollers. Once one catches the rest pile up on top of it. The leading edge is fine, the mylars are in good shape, just for some reason as it enters into the joggers the trailing edge is curling too much.

Any other suggestions? Thanks again..

sounds like curling is the problem. try flipping the paper over or use a better grade.
