I am fairly new to this forum and also to these copiers. When I print out a test page/copy it comes out "dirty" and has lines in it. I have narrowed the lines down to being on the drum. The copier has 177k on it and I have no prior history of this device.

Looking at the manual it says to replace the following at 150k:
Charge Roller, charge roller cleaning roller, drum blade 1 & 2, pick off pawls.

I will be replacing the drum due to the lines on it (not sure if the pick off caused this) and the blades due to the dirty copies. Would you recommend changing everything as per the manual stats or are there some of the items that can wait to be replaced?

I would hate to replace the drum and than say the pick off put lines back on the drum. If anyone has seen this or has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yup drum, charge roller, and the main drum cleaning blade (probably needs a fuser / transfer PM as well).

I would remove the smaller cleaning blade for the charge roller altogether as it's a complete waste of time in my opinion.
Just clean the felt cleaning roller for the charge roller and forget the drum pick off pawls as they rarely ever need replacing.

Additionally I would inspect the surface of the dev roller and the state of the toner entrance seals on the drum and dev unit.
And it worth gently coating the edge of the drum cleaning blade with either setting powder or toner.

I have done the PM as stated above minus replacing the charge roller. After doing this it cleaned up the dirty copies as well as removing alot of the lines caused by the drum. However I am still getting 2 lines on the page.

I have tried to line them up with the fuser, drum, and nothing corresponds. It appears that it might be happening before it gets to the drum. I do know it happens prior to the fuser by doing a stop test and seeing it on the page before the fuser but no marks on the drum. This is what makes me think its happening before the drum area. I checked and cleaned the developer area and blade with no luck. Does something in here need replacing vs being cleaned?

Any other suggestions? Also not sure if this will help but the first line appears at 4 1/8in (horizontal; think its about 104mm) and the second line is at 4 5/8in (horizontal; about 117mm)

Many thanks...

Did you clean the charge roller? When you look at the charge roller do you see any lines on it? If you do, do they line up with the lines? If they do, take out the charge roller and clean with water ( I use soapy water ) and see if that helps. Good luck.

When the page is being sent through the copier its running through so that the leading edge of the page (Right side of page vs top) and the trailing edge of the page is (left side of page vs bottom) which causes the lines to run horizontal on the page. Long Edge Feed. I have not changed the orientation to see if the lines become vertical b/c now the leading edge would be the top of page but think it would. Hope this helps explain better what I mean.

Optics I will look at cleaning as well next time I am out there. Question though if it was the optics writing the exta line to the drum wouldn't I see the lines on the drum when I do a stop test? I can see all the text on the drum and there is nothing extra on there to transfer to the paper? Everything thats wrote to the drum before it transfers looks good. Again new to copiers.

Side note: Just found what you were talking about in the manual about the optics. I will clean them but not sure if this will help as I can print a page from the printer, Counter list, error page, etc. so that its not copying and the lines still appear. Forgot to put that in a prior post.

Thanks for you all your input. The more the better, gives me other options to try to resolve this.

When replacing any PCU parts in the Adonis/Alex range, do them all as a set. It'll save you a headache later on. Drum A230 9510, blade B291 2354, charge roller AD02 7012, brush G790 2329.

Everything apart from the dev is rated at 150k and even then, I'd change the dev early as these machines are dogs.
