Blurry copies from both the ADF and glass? Knowing that will help narrow it down somewhat. And of course update the firmware.
Here's a weird one. This machine has about 900 copies on it and at first intermittently and now solid, the top 3 inches of the copy, that is the non-operator side is light and blurry. Just when copying. Printing and prints from memory, like SMC list are perfect. Enlargement and reduction show the same area as blurry. Cleaning the optics does nothing. I have ordered a lens unit assy, because I cant think of anything else. Its down on firmware by one letter but this doesn't seem like a fw problem, I am thinking something is wrong with the CCD chip on the SBU.
Anybody see anything like this?

If the image is dark in that area with a sky shot, then I think you could rule out firmware and CCD. The problem would be in the optics.
Check the mounting of the rear ends of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd mirrors. Also and more likely check the nylon buttons the scanner rides on. These would be the part that rides on the fixed scanner rails. I don't see them in the parts list. But, I'm pretty sure there are two at the rear and two at the front. Does the scanner ride on all four pads evenly?
Had an FT4015 a few years ago with the same thing. The 1st scanner was not moving smoothly the first few inches.
the CCD has a glass mounting in the board try to clean it..have you clean the lens?or laser section?shall i say try to clean the machine from lens block to laser section /all glasses or mirrors after lens block.
Replacing the lens assy solved the problem. A mere $320.00.
I heard from a friend today who says he has the exact same thing going on with the same model.

Replacing the whole assy costs too much. I would like to know if someone replaces the CCD chip and if it is available in the market for any model of copier. Just wondering..
