Take off back cover and add part # A096 2341 to the center of the drum post. This part gives a permanent drum ground to the bad bearing that ricoh uses. This has fixed a number of these maciines for us.

I've ordered one and received it - does it just screw on somewhere? Its got a spade connector on the end so you can attach a fly lead.

Hell, that part number goes back to the 6645 series!I got the same part from NA Trading for the 2035 series.Sounds like the best thing to do is to take it back to the 2035 series by replacing the toner motor and toner.I dont think Ricoh has a clue about what to do with this series machine.

how do u attach this drum ground to the drum which end? ive ordered a few.

Probably needs parts. I haven't had one where I can just clean the mag roller I always have had to at least put the developer in.

Had two of these today where the cleaning of the mag roller and new dev worked perfectly,

Had one last week that put my brain on fire for 2 days. Suddenly at 221K I received a call about overtoning on a MP 5000 SP. Replaced the dev together with a new dev unit. The old mag roller was badly coated, even was the new type and customer is using the new toner. Immediately after the maintenance the quality was perfect. Customer tested the machine with one job of ~150 sheets....everything good so I left. Next day another call, machine started to overtone again...but the overtoning behavior was different this time. The most visible areas of overtoning were at the leading edge and in the midle of the sheet and the hole page had a slight background. Decided to measure the drum potential at the bearing and surprise, surprise...Huge difference in between the inner part of the bearing and the exterior, where Ricoh decided to install the grounding plate...What do you say about...7 to 17 ohms for interior and 30 to 70 ohms!!!! for exterior of the drum.
Called my manager and I asked him if we have some analog machines in the scrap yard...and lucky me...2 analog machines available offered me the chance to grab 2 of the copper grounding plates A096-2341. I ordered another A096-2341 (the only one left in Canada ). Installed one in the same day on this beast and the problem went away immediately but with a cost...another bag of developer. Since then...no calls back...
Does anybody knows if the part no for the mag roller itself is D009 -3101 or 3100 cause Ricoh made this roller grayed out in their latest part catalog. Now I decided to hunt any pieces of copper and keep them, maybe will save another day sometime

May i ask u what values have you had after you fitted "modified" grounding plate ?

Of course... For interior is no modification...during printing the values are oscillating continuously in the same range. The big improvement is on the exterior of the bearing...where Ricoh fitted their grounding plate...After the mod is now in the 15 - 23 ohms range still way to high but way better than before.
The best way will be to replace completely the factory grounding plate with this copper plate and to bend it to make contact with the drum shaft. I will do this for another machine in the near future.
