What about the drum? I've had old drums give me background in Ricoh machines.

Probably needs parts. I haven't had one where I can just clean the mag roller I always have had to at least put the developer in.

I have two SP8200DN printers (the printer version of the MP5000) with exactly the same. I can't get rid of the background. When I change DV-units and Developer they run for a few thousand prints and then it's all the same. Ricoh (Holland) says it's a toner issue.
We tested various types of toner, but the problem returns after a few thousand prints. The new toner should work, but they admit there are machines where even the new toner won't work.
In cooperation with Ricoh we're going to place an MP6000 and see if the customer likes it.

I wish you all the best with these !@#$$%^% machines.

I've got a feeling your customer will have a multiple orgasm when they get that Martini in. Beats the piss out of that Alex!
Up to my nuts in toner and loving it!

Are you sure the developer was b296-9640 and not b079-9640. I've seen this more then once. And it always failed a 21k to 23k.

I'm pretty sure that everybody can read a dev bag PN, especially a tech...so out of the question that he used a wrong dev. The behaviour of these models is so erratic...but looking deeper into this problem in my own field I'm able to say that:
    1. I have more quality issues with 5000's than with 4000's.
    2. I have 4000's that customers never placed a call in over 100.000 prints/copies and when I checked the machine, the oldest dev unit (1st mass production). Old toner used. Mag roller it's coated but general quality is way better than on 5000 model.

As all you know for 5000's it's a new controller board released.
I didn't checked unit now (just pop into my head right now).
Let's check the units that give us problems in the field to see what controller is installed on these particular units. I have the feeling it's the old one and it's directly related with this problem and maybe you can share your thoughts here.

    mp4000

We have one mp4000 with background. We have been in contact with Ricoh on a number of occasions about this fault and at the last contact they have informed us that a modification of dev unit/toner hopper is supposed to be coming out................one slight problem is that they have no eta on when!!!!

My supervisor was dealing with ricoh but I know he changed some settings in sp mode and that had helped no end! He is away on a course this week but once he is back I post on what sp modes he changed!

    cheers

For a temporary measure. Just raise the dev bias. It will get rid of the background

yeah... well, once I was in a hurry and didn't check machine model and accidently poured B079 in a MP4500. Realizing my fault while throwing away the dev bag, I went to the shop, got 2045 toner and cleaned the toner out of the pcu and toner hopper. Machine did 160000 copies with the drum, and almost 300k with the dev.
