Scan to email with a Lanier LD035

I am trying to set up a Scan to email or scan to folder on a Lanier LD035 copier. I have successfully set it up on the office LAN. I can see it and access it through a work station. I have not been able to set up any of the Scan to email or scan to folder options. On the copier menu, under Address book there is no tab for SMTP Authentication FOLDER. So I cannot select the protocal SMB. When I try to scan to email what is supposed to go into the field SMTP Authentication? We do not have an in house email server. We use Covad for our email. The copier menu seems to be incomplete. I have called Lanier and they tell me to ask my network administrator, big help that was . Does anybody have answer?

I have an answer for you, but you may not like it. The LD035 cannot do scan to folder. The LD135 was the first model in this series to support that. To do scan to folder you'll need to find a copy of ScanRouter Lite and set it up on a workstation to act as a delivery destination.
Ricoh doesn't officially support ScanRouter anymore since every model now supports direct communication with a workstation. One of our bretheren out there may still have a copy of it though.

For scan to email, your authentication settings are a valid user name and password to access the email server of the ISP. For the mail server information you can use the SMTP name of the server listed on your ISP's support website for setting up Outlook or Outlook Express. Generally though without authentication you can't talk to the server.
It's been a long time since I've set one of these up so I my memory as to what options you have is a little foggy. Most of my customers who were network intensive have either an LD145 or newer box.

Also use the IP address of the SMTP server, not the name. This will avoid any DNS issues.
