    2090 Waste Toner problem

I am getting an error on an Aficio 2090 that the waste toner is reported to be full and it is not. I have taken out the bottles, emptied and cleaned them then put them back in and restarted the machine. However, it is still reporting that it is full. After repeated trials, sometimes the machine will run 1000 sheets and then say it is full and sometimes it will run 2 sheets before saying it is full. I'm stumped on this. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

A bulletin came out on this adding a cover for the toner sensor on the toner banks. Maybe you should replace the sensor and cover it to prevent contamination.

I fought this same problem for months. I cleaned the sensor multiple times, but the waste full msg. just kept coming back. Ricoh said the only good fix was to replace the whole toner bank as an assy. fortunately the customer had a maint. agreement and my boss was tired of recalls. It was expensive, but I have not had a problem for over a year now. Good luck.

Try replacing the toner overflow sensor before replacing the expensive toner bank. It is the sensor that is mounted near the toner bank motor, in my manuals it is called out as sensor S15. It usually gets dirty with toner. It can be cleaned, but because the sensor is black and the toner is black, sometimes it is hard to tell if it is clean. If if it starts to happen more frequently, you may have to go with the expensive options (replacing the toner bank). I've had to replace a toner bank as well due to very frequent dirty sensor S15's. One note of caution, either disconnect the power cord or turn off the circuit breaker when working in this area as the line voltage is present even with the power switch off.

This has happened to me so worth a check.

When attaching the toner motor back onto the toner bank I for some reason unknown to me didn't attach it properly and it slightly buckled the back end of the toner bank frame. I removed the motor and re-attached it and it worked fine.

Have you checked sp mode 2972- Toner suction collection bottle operation time? If it has exceeded 580/600hrs you will have to reset to 0 hrs.

A few of the posters were sayng about the toner collection bottle sensor. It does sit in a poor area without any cover allowing toner to fall from the chuck areas.Usually the seals fail in these toner banks through time and are easily replaced but if you don't want to go down that line as you maybe a fitter instead of a fixer replace the toner bank

We ended up changing the sensor on a machine that did this to us. Haven't called since.

Please check the rotation of waste toner coil manually to see the easy movement of coil. If the toner is stucked in the coil and the coil is moving hard it start giving waste toner full error time by time. Remove the waste toner coil drive gear and torque
limiter and remove the waste toner coil and clean that area. Try to do this before replacing the Toner bank. I hope it will work for you.
    Good luck
