2232 always asks for yellow toner

This unit just started asking for yellow toner even when the toner was half full. I replaced the toner anyways and it still is doing it . So I replace the dev unit it was ok for 2 days then it started to ask for toner again . any ideas anyone?

Probably the toner pump at the dev end or the dev drive clutch

Check that the drum positioning plate is straight and is holding the dev units all the way in. If the dev units are not correctly held in the entrance shutter on the dev unit doesnt fully open to allow toner to drop in. Low toner density will trigger a toner end condition.

A good indication that this may be the case is if there is a fair bit of loose toner sitting around the dev unit entrance when you remove the unit. You can try to straighten the drum positioning plate or Ive used small stick on rubber pads on the back of the plate in the past to fix this.

But it might just be a blockage in the toner supply pipes.

try pulling out the toner cart out and put vacuum inside the toner hopper and clean out any crystalized toner blocking in the hose, remember to pull out the dev units first or you will suck out all the developer.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

From my experience, a drum stay not being seated properly will give nearly blank copies (for that color) long before it throws a SC code or add toner. I have had some where the developer drive gear was stripped, but that produced a lot of noise as well. I like to bow the stay plate slightly inward at the center anyway - it doesn't hurt anything, and totally stops the center developers from backing out.

More likely is a clogged toner line or a worn out toner pump. A lot of the time you can clear a clogged line just disconnecting the ends and give it a good tickle with the vacuum. There is no easy fix for a bad pump - you just gotta pull it out and replace it, which can be a really fun job More so on the 3800, but still entertaining.
