I have had hard drives go out b4, but this time all the sp data was reset to zero, counters to zero, user settings to factory defaults. I replaced the hdd, formatted and set as many values back to the correct settings, and now they are getting the samr code. Sp data is not stored on the hdd, so I am thinking nvram may be short or firmware may b corrupted. Please advise. Thanks

If you've lost all the sp data and the total counter, I definitely think the nvram has crapped the bed. Especially if after re-inputting it it's done the same thing. Only time I've ever had anything like this happen was after a thunderstorm where the customer's premises had been hit by lightning and practically everything still plugged into the mains was fried. I replaced the PSU, BICU and GW board on a Af2027 type machine and it would boot, I had to re-input the serial number and all the sp data from the last non-default printout but when I cycled the power it promply forgot everything again. -
Re: Ricoh 1075 hdd error 870-09
The machine has a new hard drive, i have updated all the firmware, problem came back after the machine was turned off over the weekend.
Is it possible that the backup battery has gone dead and will not retain settings? I think the nvram is a flash style memory that wouldnt not be affected by power loss + dead battery, but not positive. Does anybody know where I can get a new nvram chip, and what kinda of procedure is required for replacment?
The customer did not notice any problems with power or lightning, so I dont think the boards are fried, and the machine runs fine after re-inputting some data(user settings, region settings, proc control)
Any help would be much appreciated!Comment

Yeah, I am sure now that it is the nvram's lithium battery failing.
I had the customer leave the machine on, and covered the power switch with tape, hasn't come back yet(been over a week).
I'm either going to replace the nvram with a new one, or maybe try that solder a battery to the nvram, does anybody know what pins i would solder the battery too?Comment
