    Setting MP 301 Baud Rate

    Hi,

I am having trouble with my Aficio MP 301 fax machine since we switched to VoIP. I want to set the baud rate to 9600. From searching the forum I know I need to set:

    SP 1-105-006 ( G3 SW 05 ) Bit 0 and 1 to 0 / Bit 2 to 1 / Bit 3 to 0
    SP 1-105-007 ( G3 SW 06 ) Bit 0 and 1 to 0 / Bit 2 to 1 / Bit 3 to 0

However I don't know how to get the machine into that programming mode. I am not too familiar with fax machines, so I am looking for the steps to do it (saying "same as any other machine except..." probably won't help me!)

    Thanks in advance -
    Rob.

Re: Setting MP 301 Baud Rate

If you do not know how to get into the Service Program (SP) then you are not trained on any Ricoh equipment. The sequence is the same as for the 03 color models. It is not in the service manual (you have to ask your supervisor) but if I remember correctly it is given in the online service training at Ricoh Learning Institute. You can also call your regional support individual.

Re: Setting MP 301 Baud Rate

Through a lot of Google searching and experimentation I figured it out - I am posting here in hopes that it helps others. This definitely worked on a Ricoh Aficio MP 171 and I am assuming it will work on most Aficio MP models.

How to configure Ricoh Aficio’s for VoIP
Here is the procedure to configure Ricoh Aficio MP 171, 301, etc. fax machines to work with faxing over VoIP.
    1. Press the yellow “Clear Modes” button

    2. Press the numbers 1 0 7

    3. Press and hold the Clear/Stop button. After 3-4 seconds you should see on the screen:

    [SP Mode (Service)]
    1. Copy Sp 2. Fax Sp
    3. Printer Sp 4. Scanner Sp

    4. Press 2 (Fax Sp)

    5. You should see on the screen:

    FAX (Class1) 0~9/<>/ok
    1. BIT SW

    6. Leave as “1. BIT SW” and press the OK button

    7. You should see on the screen:

    FAX (Class2) 0~9/<>/ok
    1. 101 System Switch

    8. Press the right arrow button (->) until you see “1. 105 G3-1 Switch”

    9. Press the OK button

    10. You should see on the screen:

    FAX (Class3) 0~9/<>/ok
    1. 105.001 00 (and the 001 will have a flashing underline showing)
    (7) 0000 0001 (0) [01]
    (0000 0001) [01]

    11. Press the right arrow button (->) until you see “1. 105.006 05”

    12. Press the OK button

    13. You should see on the screen:

    FAX (Class3) <>
    1. 105.006 05
    (7) 0000 1110 (0) [0E]
    (0000 1110) [0E]

    14. The “(0000 1110) [0E]” is the system default value. The “(7) 0000 1110 (0) [0E]” is the setting you are changing.

    15. You can toggle each bit (7 through 0) by pressing that number on the keypad. So pressing 3 would toggle bit 3 from 1 to 0. You want to toggle bits 3 and 1, so press 3 then 1 on the keypad.

    16. You should see on the screen:

    FAX (Class3) <>
    1. 105.006 05
    (7) 0000 0100 (0) [04]
    (0000 1110) [0E]

    17. Press the OK button

    18. You have now set the Transmit baud rate to 9600.

    19. Press the right arrow (->) button once.

    20. You should see on the screen:

    FAX (Class3) <>
    1. 105.007 06
    (7) 0101 1110 (0) [5E]
    (0101 1110) [5E]

    21. You can toggle each bit (7 through 0) by pressing that number on the keypad. So pressing 3 would toggle bit 3 from 1 to 0. You want to toggle bits 3 and 1, so press 3 then 1 on the keypad.

    22. You should see on the screen:

    FAX (Class3) <>
    1. 105.007 06
    (7) 0101 0100 (0) [54]
    (0101 1110) [5E]

    23. Press the OK button

    24. You have now set the Receive baud rate to 9600.

    25. Press the Escape key several times until you exit all the way out.

Not sure on the 301, but the key sequence has been changed on the 03 and newer models, like SlimSlob said.

Also, it would be in your best interests to confirm that the VOIP network is entirely standards based.
If that's not the case, you will find no joy in anything we could tell you.
    Good luck.

Re: Setting MP 301 Baud Rate

VOIP is a colossal PITA for an MFP to start with.

    Not very predictable.

I had an account some years back with an MP1515 and an MPC 2550 (I think).

Both machines sent OK, but receiving was another story.

The 1515 always worked, but the C2550 worked maybe 20% of the time.

We changed ALL the recommended settings; no joy.

We even switched the machines around. No change there, either. We swapped the C2550 with a new one, and it made no difference.

Eventually the customer did get some new telephony equipment, which did help a bit, although not much.

Re: Setting MP 301 Baud Rate

I guess I have been lucky so far. With every one of my customers who has VOIP service, they merely notified the VOIP provider which line(s) would be used for facsimile and the VOIP provider took care of all configuration changes on their equipment to allow the line to appears to be a standard metallic phone line to a fax machine.

    I don't think it's changed on the MP301
