MPC 3003 Thin colour lines when using the DF

    Hi all,

I ran into an issue last week that had me a little stumped.

Thin colour lines randomly appearing when copying using the DF not on the main glass, but never when printing, the lines vary in length & position on the page, just as if there is a few specks of dust etc on the DF glass.

I obviously cleaned all the mirrors, ran ACC etc & updated the fw for good measure but intermittently the lines reappear!

    Machine has 48k colour & 80k b/w

    Anyone got any ideas?

Do the problem lines enlarge or reduce in size if you scale up/down ?

Could it be something like insect or vermin defecation on the mirrors?

If you have insect specs on the mirrors you will need to clean all the optics with methylated spirits (pure alcohol).

Alcohol is the only thing I found that would remove insect defecation on the mirrors.
I had a similar fault were I cleaned the optics 4-5 times with water only, and with no luck.
I then used methylated spirits, and the problem disappeared.

I knew the problem was in the optics/mirrors because the coloured lines enlarged and reduced in size on the copy.

Post a sample image to the forum.

I do not see any mention of the slit glass. You mostly have small spots of color ink on the slit glass. They can be hard to spot and frequently do not show lines in B/W.

LOL obviously I cleaned the slit glass!

I will however try as suggested & thoroughly clean all the mirrors & slit glass etc with alcohol, however I did initially clean them all with glass cleaner, I guess there is a chance I missed it bit.

I have never had luck cleaning ink spots with glass cleaner. I always carry alcohol prep pads.

Alcohol or Zep Fast505 cut ink quite nicely. Glass cleaner won't do much. I have to repress the urge to laugh when my enduser holds up the dry towel: "I should use cleaner?" =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Try running your finger over the entire surface of the slit glass. There may be specs on it that you can feel even tough you can't see them. It's happened to me.

I have seen very thin scratches in the slit glass do this. Clean the glass and all is good for a time. On one particular, ending up replacing the glass.

It may be that the paper being used is of a poor quality and dust from the paper is causing lines. It sounds pretty random as though dust is being dragged through and moved when paper is being scanned?

Re: Alcohol and other Cleaning fluid.
I generally carry 2 or 3 flip top bottles that contain , alcohol, water an ammonia based cleaner for covers. The flip top makes it quick an easy to dispense a few drops here and there on most surfaces. The slimline bottles don't leak through your tool bag so they work well for most situations.

Obviously you'll need to carry a larger supply bottle in your vehicle and decant to refill the smaller bottles.
