If you continue to have issues with SMB setup, Scan To FTP is always an easy and reliable solution, and firmware is never an issue.
I use Filezilla FTP Server. It works flawlessly

Not sure what the issue is. Functionally it operates exactly as SMB. It just requires a little piece of software that runs in the background to facilitate the scans. No big deal. My clients just "want it to work"
