There is an option on the newer machines to center the scanning, but not on the older NS30 cards.
I dont know if updating the NS30 scanner firmware will do the trick.

Check parameter R1 (Auto cassette switching) in your technical manual for firmware parameters. I think the default is 0 which means it will not swap cassettes....
Could it not possibly be laser intensity?
I mean, if you have a strong laser its gonna create more charge for density, which means too high/low fuser temperature which could lead to the problem...
Does it reach the registration roller? Does it stop before it? Does it crease at the roller?
All else you have to change is the switches and update it to the latest firmware.
