I did a drum and developer change on a ES 355. When I put everything back in the machine and turned it on, the machine says to "latch the developer unit"'
I took the process unit back...

Yes replace clutch. Also make sure the reg sensor is not sticking.

Under F6 service mode you can adjust the loop adjustment for the first tray. It could be a middle roller clutch as well.

Yes that is right, usually a garbage can. You just need to lift the trays up so they are even again and then cycle the power.
