I believe you have a bad HDD. Some of the sectors on it have been damaged causing less available space resulting in longer boot times and other virturial memory issues. Still can format wont help.
Could be HDD unpluge HDD and see if it goes ready.
He probably is just running up the total counter to get more clicks on the contract lol. I have never seen so much paper run you should get credit for all that.

I've had customers lean on the scanner and cause a similar problem, just pull up on the left front and it fixed it.
