I would start with cleaning the image density sensor .. Remove the transfer belt and clean the sensor .. Had this issue at a customers .. the sensor was filthy so would set the density correctly and...

The only thing that came back from Sharp was that they are both the New CR range but the smaller devices are CR 4.5 and dont have all the features of the CR 4 range..Baffling to say the least !!!
