You can scan with SMB you just have to make sure and have a username and password to log into the PC and you have to put that same user name and password in for every time the user wants to scan...

make sure the previous empty toner is like 5-10 feet from the machine, I had this problem once and was told the toners had some radio frequency nonsense, and the empty one had to be far enough away...

make sure the used fuser oil is flowing properly and not building up in the fusing unit area. Sometimes the gate that opens doesn't open properly and fusing oil will get everywhere.
