    OK. Correction. Had a brain fart and confused CIS with CCD. Luther has the right idea. Clean the CIS scanner glass, white roller(very clean) and update firmware.

    Remove the platen glass, clean the mirrors, lamp, lamp reflector and underside of the scanner and platen glass. The light from the lamp is faded because all or some of these are hazy or dirty.

    Are you using regular plain paper and if not, have you set the media type in the driver and system menu to match the type of paper you are using?

    I find it's usually because the user doesn't have the cartridge completely seated and forces the lever into position, jamming the lock mechanism.
