I don't think there is any benefit of having the address book populated, it is just how I have always seen it with win auth. It certainly makes sense to use it as it can be...
You could also switch the tray heaters on to test if it is anything to do with humidity or condensation.
In all cases I have set it up the address book was always populated with any user that has logged in for scanning. I've always said windows authentication is for lazy IT as they do not have to manage...
Through User tools go to the address book and delete any entries of the user that can not scan. Then try logging in and scanning with that user again.
If that doesn't work check the address book...
So I assume the user can log in.

I would think it would depend on the kind of power it puts out. If its totally pure sine it should be ok and the startup current won't worry the little 1600.
