AR-M317 Can't scan to email

I'm trying to set up a donated AR-M317 to scan to email, but I'm having some issues with the SMTP settings. Our email username from our website won't fit into the web interface text box because it is too long, and when I tried putting in a Gmail or Outlook.com email account, I get an error that says "Authentication type is not supported". I can connect to the SMTP server if I don't select SMTP authentication but when I check that it has a problem with the authentication type. I've heard that a firmware update can help but I've found no firmware files or a way to update the machine. Is this something a service tech can do? I've attached a screenshot of the web page where I get the error.
