If tray is lifting, then it is sensors in P/F unit.

Is this during a copy? or print? If print only client is likely sending a document formatted to an odd size. 8.45x10.75 as an example. This typically happens with a PDF and the initial Adobe dialog box has a check box that says something to the effect of "Chose paper size based on document size" Ensure this is de-selected

I have had so many of these at one of my large accounts. Paper detect sensors in Paper feed unit 1 are bad. Here is part number and change both sensors as a pair. # VHPGP1A73A+-18. Takes about 15 minutes after you remove right side door assembly.

Yup, exactly, pretty ,much any feed issues with those machines point back to that feed unit
