Sharp MX-M282N is 'spinning up' too frequently?

    Hi All,

At my work we are using a Sharp MX-M282N MFP. It is constantly 'spinning up' every 20 - 30 seconds as though it is going to print. However most of the time it doesn't print, so I am wondering what is going on? Perhaps more importantly I am wondering how to shut the thing up (as it is starting to drive several staff members crazy)? I had considered the possibility that there may be network based software, such as Spiceworks (or PRTG Network Monitor) interrogating the printer with too high a frequency. But unfortunately this does not appear to be the case; in fact a networking specialist used WireShark to try and detect suspect data packets when the printer makes the 'spin up noise unnecessarily' but he was unable to find anything wrong.

Can anybody share some wisdom on how to make this printer less noisy, and more dormant?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Davo

I'm sure one of the Sharp guys can confirm this, but many MFP's now periodically rotate the fuser rollers so that they do not get flat spots. You do not want to stop this function. It makes the fuser rollers last longer without getting flat areas, and the resulting galloping sound associated with it.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

This is a very annoying byproduct on some of the newer models. If you really want to minimize the noise set your pre-heat mode to 1 minute then the copier will go to sleep. Only thing is the copier will have to warm up for any jobs that you want to perform, not too terribly bad as these heat up pretty quickly.

    Good luck.

The last time I saw this happen there was a piece of equipment on the network that was sending some kind of information to the same IP address as the copier. Disconnect the network cable to see if the problem stops. If it stops then have their IT department check into any device on the network that is sending out data and see if it is sending it to the copiers IP address.

I wish they would make quality LFRs that do not acquire flat spots like the old days

You can put the blame partly on consumers wanting a quicker startup to copy time; if the machine is shut down properly, and is operating as designed, flat spots would not occur.
