I have an MX6240, that for the last 4mos, at the most once every month or so, throws an H2,3,4 code, I thought lets check the wall voltage today.
The customer moved the machine like 10 feet into another room before the problem started.

Metered the wall after my last trip, NOT a 220v line, its a 20amp 110v line. This machine has an LCC and a saddle finisher to power also. The customer bent the P2 prong on the suppressor, and the only defects were occasional H codes. This is weird because I have had the 208v or less issues for MX6240 at other customers, but this one runs almost fine on a 120. WTH?

That is shocking, that it powers up at all. 220... 110... what's the difference? =^..^=

The only thing that makes sense to me it that it never really uses 220 for anything just splits the 110s out to allow more current availability.

Still very weird and I would have never thought it would work.

I had a customer connect a 220v line to a 20 amp 110 V duplex outlet ( Machine required 20 amp outlet) then plugged in brand new machine that had been left at new installation uninstalled due to lack of 20 amp outlet. Fries power supply & 2 boards they wanted us to repair it under warranty.

Since some of the H codes are fuser related a lack of power would make sense.

How are you taking the reading from the outlet? If you are only testing one pole of the outlet, it will read 120v on a meter.
This thing needs every bit of the 208v so I find this almost impossible to fathom......

If it were me I would let the customer know in writing that bending the prongs on the plug so it can work on a 120v 20A line could be a fire hazard.
Heaven forbid there is a fire. You know the insurance company will try to blame the copier and the customer will play stupid leaving you and your dealer on the hook. Seen this before. Luckily the customer was informed via a letter so the tech was not blamed.

Stranger things have happened.

I'm guessing that the power supply is duel voltage. It "detects" the input voltage and adjusts accordingly. This saves having to produce a different power supply for each region. When the voltage is low, eg. 208V, the output voltages are effected. But when the voltage is really low, eg. 118V, the power supply says aha, 110V mains and carries unconcerned.

We had this back in the days of the Sharp FO460 Fax, there was an earthquake in Newcastle, Australia, which cause a huge brown out. All the FO460s simply changed over to 110V operation and carried on. When the power jumped back up to 240V however all the faxes popped their fuses. Every single one of them. We had a busy couple of weeks repairing all of them on top of recovering from one of the most devastating earthquakes ever experienced in Oz.

Had the same thing the electrician wire it with only one leg of 110. The issue was smearing on 20 lb paper. The other thing is the sharp surge gave us a green light.
