    Rendering on Sharp MX-C311

This is in an apple environment and intermittently the job will not print and the job status says "rendering".

You have to cycle power to copier to clear.

Copier has been on site for over 2 years and just started this within the last month.

Any ideas what is causing this.

Perhaps an ungrade to IOS - is this problem showing from all users?

    Re: Rendering on Sharp MX-C311

I see this happen a lot when trying to print from the internet. Mostly from Windows though and it is a settings change in the print driver that fixes it, normally! I've been told two things cause this, one you can change settings in the print driver for the other is caused by scripts running on the web page they are trying to print from. Basically the copier doesn't understand the print job and it just sits there and trys to "render" the job. If you go into the print driver settings under advanced you can change the True Type fonts to download the fonts instead of the default embedded fonts each time and this will resolve the issue most of the time. Not sure on Mac drivers where this is located. The other options is to update the driver which works sometimes too....

    Good luck

PS check to see if it is web based documents they are trying to print before you go to the trouble of changing all of their driver settings.

They are not printing from the internet, they are printing in house documents.

There are no adjustments available within the Mac print drivers unlike the Windows print drivers.

Have you tried disabling WSD and mDNS in the network settings. Again more of a windows issue, but worth trying.

mDNS disabled they cant see the printer, had to enable it for them WSD is disabled.

As mentioned this is more of a windows fix.

Customer insists they had not had an operating system upgrade, but you know how that goes.

They are using the latest print driver from Sharp, but just loaded it after the problem started.

    Re: Rendering on Sharp MX-C311

I have had this issue on several Sharp boxes and believe it has something to do with the print driver settings. I've had multiple customers on multiple OS platforms that have had this issue when printing (job rendering, data light blinking on the box and spitting out one print at a time, etc.) and have started to adjust the print driver settings to resolve most of these issues with much success.
Try going into the print driver and choose printing preferences then choose advanced tab...1) change bitmap compression from high quality to medium quality 2) Change print mode from high quality to normal.
I have made these changes in the print drivers and they have worked, it has had no impact on print image quality, either.

The Sharp PS driver for this series is basic at best and have had to use HP universal drivers instead to resolve issues.

Could still be a font issue. Are they using some font that they created? Is it only happening from one computer by chance? If they have generated a special font that is causing this you can download that font onto the copier. This is an interesting problem and would like to know the fix as this seems to be happening more and more not just on Sharp's. Are these by chance PDF documents that they are trying to print or are they having problems with various document formats? Or is it one program that is generating documents that have this issue?

    Thank you and good luck.

FW update? I know there was an issue with RAW printing a few years ago...FW update fixed that.

    1. Check the job log, it may give you a print error.
    2. Font issue. As stated earlier, a lot of printing issues are caused by fonts. Not sure about the MAC driver, but in a Windows driver you can choose to download the fonts, or render the font as a bitmap image. With PDF, you also have the option to "print as image" on the PDF print interface.
    3. Dump print memory using 67-17. Make sure you clone before running this SIM.
    4. Driver port settings. Under Printer Properties, go into the configure port settings, set to LPR from RAW (default), name the queue (I use lp), and click enable byte counting. Agin, not sure how the MAC driver looks...
