    MX-7040 only prints Black?

    OK we got this in used. The color copy button is greyed out and not functional but it will copy in black we have updated firmware replaced a bunch of boards reset defaults & looked for any setting that would deactivate color. Next step for us will be clone a machine from field to this one.
    Any help is appreciated.

    How did you reset to defaults? Be careful when cloning one machine to another, they must be same model, and machines must have same options, etc. otherwise, you may loose some of the features.

    I just go under Security Settings and "Initialize Private Data/Data in Machine" to delete anything and change everything the previous owner or technician did, back to factory defaults.
    Takes about an hour to complete, but I do it all of the used machines that we are going to "refurb" and resell.

    are the color functions restricted in your user or admin settings?

    I know it sounds silly but in some HPs when some color unit is almost depleted the machine switches to black and white printouts only.
    Just an idea.

    Go into User Control, Default settings and disable it. If it is booting directly into a BW and button is grayed out, make sure Device Account mode is not checked.

    You can do the same thing with Restore Factory Default under Security Settings, 67-17 to dump print memory, and 62-11 to wipe out doc filing data.
    Only takes 5 minutes....

    I'd check user control, I have a few customers where the machine auto logs in as a code and it only can do black no colour, they have to log out and in with a different code for colour.

    This is called Device Account Mode, it is in User Control > Default Settings.
