    mx-456n

we have a 465n that will be working fine then all of a sudden the scanner just starts going about 4 inches back and forth from home slowly non-stop. if its during a copy cycle it will jam. the lamp is not on. after you remove the jam it keeps doing it until you shut it off.it could be in sleep mode and still do it. any suggestions would be great. Thank You

I would start by checking the scanner home sensor first, second would be the scanner board itself.

If the lamp is not coming on, it cannot read the white reference strip under the glass. This will usually generate an error code though.
The lamp and lamp base have been changed for this model, check the bulletins for proper part numbers.
-check the exposure lamp in service mode, MHPS (home poition as suggested above) and the action of the scanner motor.
-if "dirt detect" is on, turn it off in SIM (53-9) and uncheck the box in the webpage

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!
