Just wondering if anybody has placed one of these MXB455W out in the field and your impression of them. We have quite a few of the older A4 machines out that are getting a little long in the tooth. I appreciate any feedback.

We are just starting to install these and I have to say, I am not impressed. The machine is wider at the top than the base, so they can tip easily. The paper tray decks use some of the thinnest "metal" I have ever seen. ADF is a very basic system and the paper size setting for the drawers is entirely different from all previous Sharps.
As with most new Sharp products, nothing a dozen firmware updates and retorfits can't fix!

I... would stay away from NEW models... for at least a year, or a generation. I've said this before on another thread, but just as an example, let's take a look at the bulletin boards for the brand new machines still in production for this generation of Sharp MFP's like... the MX-3570. There are...21 pages of bulletins! For parts modifications, to broken fuser gears, so many posts about loud noises, and the list just goes on and on. For these reasons the company I work for tend to stick to generation behind. We look at the updates, see what others have experienced. If you choose to buy a machine fresh from production line then theres a chance that you will be the first to experience a new problem.
This is just my two cents.
As luck would have it, we had one of these delivered by FedEx today, tipped over on its side. I have come to discover that there is no tape or covering of any kind over the DV units. The other machine have tape, strings, labels, etc...these have nothing.
Needless to say every board in this things is covered in DV material.

At one time it was hard to beat a Sharp for great color and overall reliability, minus a few tech bullitains and some modifications... but those days seem to be gone. Over priced turds, and... seems to be diarrhea as of late. JMHO
And so it begins; new firmware V1.1 released today. 14 fixes with most pertaining to machine lockups...wonderful!
