    Sharp AR-M160 doc feeder issue

Hello all got one that is stumping my boss and I.
have an ar160 that the doc feeder has new rollers in it but is not passing paper. it pulls it in to just past the paper sensor before the second roller shaft. if I hold in the paper feed solenoid it will pass paper but if it works on its own it seems to release to soon. this happens on an ARSP6 feeder and a ARRP6

    thanks for thoughts.
    Happy forth of july

    What jam codes?

Most of the smaller Sharp DF's have the same issue. The registration rollers get dirty, but are difficult to get to to clean properly. If I remember correctly the entire feed assembly must be removed from the DF base and flipped upside down to clean the rubber rollers. I prefer D-ink or Contractors De-Sol-Vit as a cleaner. If you do this once a year they seem to feed ... not great, but OK. They never fed great, not even new. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

My boss loves D-ink too but they went out of business in november and there is none to be found. I did tear 2 feeders apart and clean all rollers and sensors. but on both feeders the paper stops just after the sensor before it turns to the next set of rollers before the adf glass.

    ok more info.
run sim 2-2 with machine in an ok state. bypass light is on and tray 2 light. get out of sim mode. make copy from adf. paper jams right at top sensor, and a blank copy comes out. jam light is on and and arrow pointing to adf is on.leave machine as is go into sim 2-2 toner light is on and the arrow pointing to the fuser area is on. clear jams run 7-1 jams at same place.
my thought is the clutch on the pick/feed rollers in the adf. when I hold the clutch stop lever open after it triggers it passes paper and makes a copy

Re: Sharp AR-M160 doc feeder issue

Could be a bad solenoid, but first I would try these two easy things before you throw money at it, 1) clean the spring clutch of all the factory grease (as it hardens and the spring fails to bring gear teeth back into place) either re-grease with silicone/ Teflon lube or as I always found, no lube. 2) give the spring on the solenoid an extra stretch to put a little more pressure on the arm, ( if there is a spring, it's been a long time since I seen an ARSP6). If those do not work and you have had it fully removed from the doc feeder frame and have cleaned and inspected all sensors, switches (springing back into position) and rollers, try swapping out the jam switches before you replace boards. Also, make sure that the adf is sizing the paper correctly when feeding the paper.

Have you tried shifting the solenoid in the pf mechanism a little?

I have seen the solenoid not pulling far enough. If you losen it, pull it back an fasten it again its ok...

thank you for all the information and thoughts. i may be thick headed but if I put the feeder on a similar machine and it works perfect how can it be a problem with the feeder?
