Change developer unit message on MAC print driver

Interesting problem. This client has mostly MACs and some of them get a "developer unit needs to be replaced" when they send a print job, print job still goes through. Not all of the MACs just some of them. There is no corresponding message on the unit nor is there any maintenance due. Windows drivers do not show this message. The message does not state which one just that one of them needs to be replaced.

I checked this post: Sharp MX2600 Change Magenta Deveolper Cartridge but it doesn't seem to apply. Going out there today to see this message in person. Figure I'll check the MAC versions on the machines that are doing it and possibly update their drivers.

Wondering if anyone has seen this before and what the solution was. I was out there previously but could not duplicate the message.

Thank you for your time and effort in this matter.

Common MAC issue telling you to replace a consumable.

It is a MAC issue and the print driver update or the MAC O/S update is what probably caused it.

    Feel free to ignore it.

Mac print drivers are NOTORIOUS for throwing this message. Apple's attitude is, "It doesn't do that on OUR equipment...you need to make your machine more compatible with us!!"

It does it pretty much across the board too... Konica, Canon, Ricoh/Savin, etc....

Re: Change developer unit message on MAC print driver

The thread mentions using a Windows PPD file instead.

This is an old trick I’ve used for years, and while not for this particular reason, it’s worth a shot.

Install the Windows driver on a Windows machine (the newer Windows version, the better), and do a test page.

Copy the PPD file it lists to the Mac, and point to it in the driver setup.

PPD files (PostScript Printer Definition) are not platform specific, and will work in Windows, Mac, or Linux.

Please update us with what supply item (assuming that's what triggered it) caused the driver message, if you find it.

There were no maintenance or supply messages due on this machine. No messages on unit of any kind just on the print window and then only on 2 of their MACs.

Did you check with the web browser as the message on the machine could be turned off with soft switch

you could always reset the dev counters

Re: Change developer unit message on MAC print driver

This is a common message for all Sharps from certain versions of MAC OS, :Mountain Lion" being the most troublesome. You can fix this by completely removing the current driver and update to the latest and greatest, message will cease to appear.
