    SMTP - 'Other Error'

    Having issue with smtp scanning. Error log shows 80-0000 and selected servers are not found on screen. Doing SMTP test gives 'Other error'. That's it. Beyond frustrating. Switched SMTP server as well as tried IP address. Checked ping successful from copier. Changed DNS servers. Still nothing.

    Doing packet capture shows no smtp packets at all when trying to send.

    from copier ping 8.8.8.8

    if you get reply you know copier can talked to the "outside world"

    Set up Gmail account use following settings

    smtp server smtp.gmail.com
    user name and password....... whatever you used to set up gmail account
    SSL on

    Under Services>>>>SMTP set the port to 587

    Test......if it does not work from PC log in to gmail account and check for a suspicious activity email ...... open email and click YES that was me

    Test again

    If still fails, from PC ping smtp.gmail.com and use the IP that answers ping instead of smtp.gmail.com

    If that works then you have a DNS problem, try 8.8.8.8 as one of the DNS servers

    Had this issue a few weeks ago, had to use SMTP server IP address instead of name and worked fine.

    Still waiting to hear from customer. I believe it is a firewall/network issue. Once they believe that to be taken care of I will go back and re-check settings and test.
