Customer not on a network, wants scan to folder

I am a old school tech and my it-computer skills are not great. Trying and learning but have a ways to go. I have set up scan to network folder but customer has no network. Copier is just plugged directly into computer. I guess this is called scan to PC? It looks like according to sharp we would need sharpdesk scanner? I dont know. How do I set up scanning with computer just plugged in directly to MFP? Thanks

Plugged in via ethernet cable or USB?

    So...

I might be wrong, but I've never been able to set up scans to PC with a Sharp machine using USB cable.

Now, I have set up scan to PC using both SMB (network folder using username and password) and FTP (Sharpdesk software) when using a crossover cable. You can make one yourself, takes 2 minutes. Just set the copier and computer in the same IP range with the copier IP as the gateway set up scan normally.

It would be easier, depends on the model though, if you set up the copier as an access point. Then the user just logs in to the wifi of the copier. With the computer fully networked to the copier directly, you can set up scanning normally.

Direct scan to PC via USB is from a Twain driver (as I remember).

You haven't mentioned what model. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I called sharp a long time ago, I was told this can't be done with Sharp MFP's via USB and the TWAIN driver. Sharp rep said it needs to be in the network for TWAIN to work.

The reason Mansart asked is because you can throw away your USB cable and connect via ethernet. Then you can set both to a static address and print and scan all you want.

Re: Customer not on a network, wants scan to folder

There is an old GDI version of Sharpdesk that you can use to scan over USB. It is a pain to setup but once done correctly it works like a charm. Have not seen this program in a long time and I'm sorry to say that I do not have it anymore.

    Good luck.

PS Newer versions of Sharpdesk allow you to acquire the MFP and scan that way. I've done it this way as well but with spotty results. If you have the setup disc for an MXM200 or even better an ARM207 I think the Sharpdesk I'm thinking of was included. LOL
