Not a Sharp manufacture tech but I'll take a stab at this.
Chances are the computer is connected to the internet with the ethernet cable. This will in itself will prevent the copier from being plugged into the computer via ethernet so it is using USB for printing. Now to get around this the customer needs a 4-5 port workgroup switch or better yet a router. With the router this will separate the the local equipment from the internet. Let's go simple and use the workgroup switch. Unplug the ethernet from the computer and plug this into the switch. Plug a new cable into the computer and then the switch. Do the same with another cable from the copier to the switch. Now you have a small network. Set the print driver to print to the IP address of the copier and setup Scan desk. This should be less than $50 US Dollars. Not sure about Euro's.
