Sharp ar-407 jamming

It appears there may be 3 problems with jamming. The first is that often but not most of the time the front edge of paper gets clipped in the middle about 2-3 inches wide and it happens when coming out of the trays(both) . I took out the tray paper feed units and noticed that there is a flat spot on the reverse roller of each of the paper feed units. I know this might sound dumb but the great majority of my time in this business was int he office with employees doing service. I am assuming that the flat spot is not there by design but from machine sitting idle after an already wearing roller. I say this because machine is at a school and assume it was idle in summer months. I don't have this roller(nrolr1229fczz) to compare which is why i ask.
The second problem is jamming at top of vertical transport at varying degrees of entry in pre-registration rollers. it can be pretty consistent . I tried a resist roller adjustment(51-2) and it seemed to be a lot better after that but next day it was back to jamming consistently again. I know there is a cluthchpack that foes on this series machine but was hoping o improvise and avoid having a big job on my hands. I was daydreaming that maybe the clipped front edge of paper was causing both problems but the jamming at pre-reg was more consistent than clipped paper and sometimes it is difficult to concentrate when you were up all night as happens with me at least 2 days a week.
The 3rd problem I went back to pick up check from first day and doing the resist roller adjustment and thought all was okay. I hadn't noticed the clipped front edge yet and customer went to machine to test and sure enough that sucker jamme on first copy and that was a duplex copy which I had not even ventured into. So now I had a duplex jam problem as well which I haven't even got to yet. After removing duplex jam ran regular copies and it jammed consistently at pre-regist. rollers. No check today.
This was when I started to notice that some pages were clippd at middle of front edge. I began to think that maybe I had finally fallen asleep and this was just a little nightmare I was having but no such luck.
The challenge of taking care of the problems on this machine is now weighing agaist the possible prohibitive cost to customer of taking care of these 3 problems. before the summer the machine was working fine and just need a drum kit. Any input and mybe a little humor would be very much appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Wow, lots of questions:
Flat spots on the resist rollers in paper feed is not normal and needs replacing, it is a common issue.

Jamming at the pre-registration also common, could be the result
of the paper leaving the feed tray late due to the flat spots.
Also have seen the pre-registration sensor mount become bent
thus changing the timing. Not easy to get to this one.

Lastly, You need to put 5 new E-mag clutchs in the main pack of the copier for duplex jams, and two new emag clutchs in the duplexer itself.
Thats your only option. I have no bandaid fixes for these machines.

The feed rollers should be nice and round, and yes that reverse roller will flat spot if setting for a while, being off for the summer can do it, the rollers do however last longer then the ones on earlier analoges.
The clutches on the duplex unit do need to be replaced, they had issues.
The clutch pack, there is 5 clutches in it, its easier and more cost efective to replace the whole unit, then to replace all 5 of them in there.
And if you have not seen it yet, the P/S clutch is in the main drive unit, not on the end of the P/S roller like on older models.

All the previous comments are good advice.

The worn PF tires can cause both problems. Try the tires first.

What jam codes are you getting? I can give more specific advice if I had jam codes.

I am going back on friday or monday when i expect to have the reverse rollers as well as feed and pick-up just in case. They are inexpensive enough to warrant changing all 3 of each tray-feed unit. Also ordered one of the two sensors as one was very discolored on inside and thought it best to change as well. After replacing I will do a more concentrated and thorough test of machine including jam sensor codes. I will keep you informed of my progress(or regress). Thank you. Frank

I would throw in the torque limitor for the sep roller to be on the safe side.

If the new brake rollers do not fix it, I have had mixed results with trying to wash out the different clutches. I tried this since the clutch problems are supposedly caused by excess grease getting into them. If your time isn't worth much, you could try it. I was told to try carburetor cleaner. It can be a smelly option. Even if you do the cleaning outside, the smell stays.

As pointed out earlier the registration clutch is in the drive unit. This drive unit is not the mentioned clutch pack.
