We have sold quite a few of them. They are quite reliable, print extremely well, really simple maintenance items/consumables and so far we have not had any major problems. There are a few service bulletins regarding the ADF, Bypass tray and the fuser unit. If these mods are done in the field or you get new units with these mods already done, the machine works great.
It really is just like a smaller version of the proven/reliable MX machines. Just make sure you keep the firmware up to date.
Also, the lift motor assemblies for each tray tend to make a loud noise like its struggling to lift when the tray is full. Sounds like a groaning noise like there is too much load on the lift motor. Upon inspection, taking the lift motor out (1 screw & 1 cable - very easy), there is absolutely no grease inside it on the worm/drive gears. If you pack the lift motor assembly gears with Sharp white grease, the lift motor is silent and works really well. We have done this with all of them in the field.

Overall, a great machine (especially the touch screen models) that is perfect for someone wanting a MX machine without A3, that can sit on the desktop. Sure beats a HP or something similar.

Hey JP,

Yes, these are a great machine, but remember.... they are a 'plastic fantastic'. They are all plastic cover clips and basic frame design. Its designed on the same theory & engine as the MX machines, but everything's mostly plastic. Keep that in mind when selling to someone who might give the machine a flogging when that is not what she's built for.
Here is Australia, we dont have the 401. We have the 310,311,380 & 381 which are all the same as your 401, so that is what I am basing my info on.
Otherwise, perfectly good machine with all functions and features. Great desktop replacement machine.
