Sharp AR-FN15 Misaligning Pages during Staple Operation

We have an AR-FN15 Finisher that is on a MX-700U. When using the stapler option, more often than not, the stapler sometimes fails to staple multiple sheets together. It seems to misalign some of the pages so that the staple goes through some of the pages but not all. On occasion, I do not hear the stapler attempt a staple operation.

Sharp Technical support suggested that I look at the paper feed sensors on the LCC. I informed the tech that it happened on all cassettes. He then suggested checking ground to neutral, which by the way is less than 1/2 volt. We also have a Sharp power filter on this machine.

This looks like a mechanical issue to me. I also inspected the parts suggested on the old SharpNet site pertaining to worn "Stoppers". They appear in good order and do not seem to stick. This machine is in a high school, high volume area. Sharp IDNC shows nothing pertaining to this problem.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Ray

I have a service bulletin that states the following:

AR-FN15/16 - Documents not being stapled and/or collated correctly
Check for wear on the STP tray sensor (0CW4123R085//) and delivery sensor flange (0CW4123R164//), especially on high volume machines.

I had a problem very similar to yours and checked the above, but they seemed OK. I ended up replacing the entire staple unit (not just the cartridge, the whole staple unit - one screw & one cable). I was able to do 500 stapled sets of a copy job for the client without any faults after replacing the staple unit. Haven't heard of any other problems there for months now. Wasn't able to to do 30 sets before that. Done a few other service calls there, no complaints about the stapling/collating. Maybe worth checking it out as well.

Hello Wazza,

Thank you very much for the information! I will try your suggestion later this week and see what happens. We are in a rual setting so we do not generally see a lot of any one machine, except the 355/455 series.

Again, many thanks.

Take Care
