Sharp mx4101 Issue.

Hi,

Ive got a Mx4101 Sharp, which had a Blacked out operation panel, when i got to the machine, it could not copy or print at all,the 1st thing i did was replaced the operation panel Loom,as i had a different machine but same model about a month ago, which had a blanked out screen and the loom was at fault,,anyway coming back to my problem, after replacing the loom the panel was still blacked out, then i replaced the SCU pwb, which fix the blacked out panel and fixed the machine copying and printing,,,now the challenge started, black and white copying and scanning, printing is Fine, but,,copying and scanning, printing comes out with a fuzzy green background where the page is suppose to be white, ive replaced the mfp,icu and tried a different scu pwb,i even tried a ccd assembly,,latest firmware,,any suggestions guys??im gona pull the machine into the w/shop and spend some more time with it...PS ive done all the adjustments that the manual describe to do when replacing a scu pwb,,

Kind regards.

From all of that, I get that your problem is only scanner related. All print engine functions are OK. Am I correct? Your problems began after replacing the SCN board?
I have seen a 'fuzzy green/yellow' background on colour copy/scans before due to a faulty CCD unit. You mention you have replaced it already. Check the CCD cables going to the SCN board as these have very fragile & sensitive pins on each end plug. It would be easy to bend/break a pin during replacement of either the CCD or the SCN board if you were not really careful.
Confirm sim 64-01 & 64-05 engine prints are all OK. If the problem is completely scanner related, check CCD cable & pins, CCD position and placement, as well as ADF centering and hinge adjustements.
If you had a blank Op Panel when you first got the machine, what is it's history? Is the machine new? Was it damaged during transport?

Hey Wazza

Wazza,

the machine is about 7months old.its got 92000bw and 30000colour prints, what i forgot to say was that the bw copies, prints, scanning is fine and only the colour printing, copying and scanning is affected,i already replaced the ribbon cable coming from the ccd unit, but not the one coming from the Scanner itself, didnt have one at the time, but the machine is in the wshop so i will have a play with it,its not a problem machine at all, this was the first problem it had, what made me to test the other boards was the blanked out screen, will keep you informed with my progress mate,

Regards

Hey Shano,

Sorry mate, bit confused here....

Now color printing is bad, as well as color copy/scan?

Check and confirm that color printing is OK, because its still sounds like a scanner related issue, which would only affect color copy/scans, not color network printing or internal color test-pages like sim 64-01 & 64-05.

Shane,

Firstly, dont use 46-24 & 67-24 for calibrations on the new, second series MX machines. Use 46-74. It does both of these calibrations in one go.
Only use 46-24 & 67-24 on the first series MX (MX2300,2700,3500 etc etc). The 46-74 does a great job in about half the time.
Never needed to use the old method on the new machines.

If your machine is printing self-test pages 64-01 & 64-05 OK, then there is nothing wrong with the print engine.
That would mean that the color calibration pages 46-74 would be OK as well as these are print from the engine only.
If you are scanning in good quality color calibration pages, I would expect there to be an error if you have a problem with your scanner, CCD or SCN board.
The problem definitely sounds like either a CCD or Scan board problem. I have seen both in the past cause exactly the same issue as what you have. I can remember one in particular, which gave no error messages, worked perfectly fine in every way, except color copies & scans would give a yellow/green background across most of the page. It was the CCD unit causing the problem. Adjusting it made no difference.

Also, you haven't said if you have tried a Double-sided colour copy. Your machine has 2 CCD's. One in the main scanner, one inside the DSPF doc feeder. It would be an easy diagnostic if a double-sided color copy through the doc feeder was clear on one side and fuzzy on the other. Give that a try as well.

From memory the CCD part numbers are the same as other MX series 2 machines. If you have another MX2600N onwards sitting around, quickly swap over the CCD (obviously following the service manual procedures).

I think with some more testing and diagnostics you will work this one out.

Definitely scanner related though.

Talking

Hey mate, after testing it for a couple of days now and the mc proof to work fine,i can can definitely confirm with you now that the fault was the Loom going from the Mother pwb to the Lsu unit, one of the wires had a kinked, after further investigation i found out it was the the wire connected to the cyan channel and thats why i had Cyan fuzzy as a background mostly, this the the 2nd machine with a faulty loom ive come accros and all not being that old, just somthing to look out for there guys, take care.

Shane.

Hey Shane,

Nice fix. I must say we haven't had anything like that here. I assume the machines coming to you in NZ, would be similar production run as those coming to us here in Australia.
I'll keep an eye out for it on any of the new C-Jupiter 2's. Thanks alot mate.
