jams above the fusing, paper is wrinkled as an accordion

We have some strange issues on the MX-2301-2600-3100 series.
Some machines are jamming when printing large surfaces.
The paper jams just behind the fusing and is wrinkled as an accordion.
We can solve the problem by replacing the delivery unit. (the unit above the fusing)

But actually, I rather want to know if this can be solved by replacing a single part instead of the whole unit.
    Anyone had this problem yet?

    thx in advance!

When you say "large surfaces", do you mean large areas of toner or large sheets of paper?
Check the resistance of the drivetrain to the final exit rollers in the delivery unit, as it is only a small stepper motor that drives these rollers and it does not take a lot to cause the motor to lock if the drivetrain is a little tight. You can check the rotation of it using sim 6-1.
If you check sim 22-3, what specific jam codes does the machine record?
Check the condition of the fuser rollers too, in case of flat spots.

I ment large areas of toner. Pictures or surfaces with 100% filling.
The jams are not continuously and sometimes you can complete a job, very strange. But always the same jam location and the accordion thing in the paper.
I first thought that it was a flat zone in the lower or upper heater roller, but it was not solved by replacing it.
There are 4 brown rollers in the delivery unit that are streched with a spring. And on the opposite you have the axes with the 4 fixed black rollers.
There is a space between the brown and the black rollers. This is normal for this machine but a strange construction in my opinion.

I should take pictures of it....

Hmmm. The rollers immediatly after the fuser are a waste of time as they do not actually meet, this is normal for the machine but as you say, a bit weird!

I have seen this on MX2600 but never a MX2300. In our case it was the PTC causing the problem. The fuser would drive the paper out but the rollers in the delievery unit were not turning. Replacing the PTC AND reseting the counter solved the problem.

We neither had this problem on the mx-2300, but just on the mx-2301/2600/3100.
We can solve the problem by replacing the delivery unit, but I was searching which part of the unit causes the problem so it will be easier to repair...
I can't find a direct clue between the ptc and the jams above the fusing. Can you explain a bit more?

If i remember sharp did a modification to the high voltage PWB. My guess would be electrical noise. I have only seen this on 1 or 2 machines. I know 1 for sure had a older style PWB. I can't find the bullettin.

Here is a link to the thread i started. Wazza suggested the PTC and it worked. It also has a picture of the jam.

    MX3100 POD2_N Jam

Also read the entire thread Froota, Wazza (OMD) answered another guys question about a 2300 that was jamming in the delievery unit. Hope this helps.

I have had a few 4101 and 5001 where the suction fans in the delivery unit are not functioning and cause a similar jam. Sometimes a fan code will appear, sometimes not.

Thumbs up Re: jams above the fusing, paper is wrinkled as an accordion

I've replaced the Ptc and asked the customer to print a lot as they did before the problems started.
So far the customer didn't call back....so thx in advance.

If I have more news I will let ya know!
