Scan to Email Exhcange 2010 Issues.

    Hey fellow techs.

I was wondering if any of you have had much experence with getting exhcange 2010 working with any of our copiers without comming up with "Authentication type not supported"

Emails work fine with no authentication internally but as soon as I try and send externally I get the basic lost comunication error.

I have tried every method of authentication I can think of.

    domain/user
    user@domain.local
    user@domain.com/whatever
    user
    anon
    SSL etc.

I have tried setting up the copier to have it's own account with it's own email. Still the same error.

I know that 2010 now has diffrent authentication that only really works with the latest office products etc, and by default does not use plain txt authentication anymore.

I have fixed the issue at some sites by getting the clients I.T to setup relay, but on 2010 it is quite hard to setup now from what it used to be on 2003/7. But a lot of I.T people now will not setup relay as it opens up all ports and what not. There is a way to setup sequre relay but it is quite complicated.

Any help would be great thanks!

So have you guys found a way around this or come into this issue?

After doing some poking about I found this.

Allow Applications to Send Email Through Exchange 2010 - Matt Williamson's Blog

I followed this and it sorted it out with no authentication at all!

Nice find, I know we will be using this setup at some time in the near future. Tks...

    Email with Exchange 2010.pdf

With Exchange 2010, you would need to use the following settings all together to get it running:

    SMTP Authentication
    Use TLS
Have a registered Mailbox with the correct email address

If you follow through the docco that I put together, it eliminates all of the above.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.
