Black bands across copies
Hi there, i've got a weird problem on a sharp al-1631. I've never seen anything quite like it and i've been working on sharp a long time. The copies have black lines like sharp dashes across the page about an inch apart. It also has some image feintly in the background and jumbled all over the place; it's weird. I changed the drum and the laser unit and nothing, no change. I installed an I/F pwb for the jaguar in the machine in an attempt to print to it to rule out the scanner unit because i'm thinking it's either that or the main board. This didn't work because i couldn't find a driver i think because the al-1631 wasn't designed for printing. Any ideas ?

Let's see a sample.
You don't say anything about the primary. Contaminated sawtooth & grid could account for a wide variety of effects. The only roller small enough to produce a re-occurring pattern at 1" intervals is the registration roller. You would have to have some serious toner dumping to get that effect. Attach a scan of the image.

Sounds like the ground for the right door (top right corner) is loose. Machine must have good ground or transfer will arc out. You can watch it sparking at the ground if this is the type of machine I think it is.
Could be laser unit though...if so it may be junk unless you want a challenge.

You should be able to run a greyscale printout in sim 64-01 I believe to rule out scanner.

internal printouts...!
the grey scale is a good idea, but it doesn't produce the affects you may want to get try pritingout other internal prints like the control menuor the functions list, that way the drum is not totally charged. its been a minute since I worked on a sharp, but that should rule out the scanner as it will not be use.
