Sharp AR-M355U Trying to setup USB printing on Win 7 64 bit

For some reason I can't get the software to install and see the USB printer for the Sharp 355. I downloaded the drivers from Sharp, installed custom so I can tell it to use connect to this computer, it installs then says to reboot and connect cable. After that it does not show the printer. Any help appreciated. I never have had this kind of trouble setting up a local printer.

What driver are you attempting to use?

I am using the Win 7 PCL6 drivers from Sharps website. I have two machines one is 64 bit and the other 32. I am using the appropriate bit software with the machines. I haven't tried Parallel yet. I am starting to think this isn't going to work. The customer is running XP so I am getting a machine to test with that. Brand new old stock machine, just trying to set it up and make sure it prints before delivery. What a headache.

For USB printing you should try the PPD driver and see how that works out for you.

Just a thought........ Have you enabled the USB port in the Network settings ?

    edit....

I didn't try PPD, but just tried Parallel. Still no go. This machine should be capable of at least Parallel printing out of the box. Has anyone set one of these up on XP to print USB or Parallel?

This machine does not have the network card, supposed to be just local printing. I appreciate any help I can get.

As I said, try the PPD driver. I believe PCL6 is for networked copiers only (a U can be upgraded to an N with accessories).

I tried it for giggles, PPD is for PostScript and you have to have the PS module to do PS. No go. Either the U machines can't print local or this one has a bad board.

Hmm... I was of the estimation that PPD had replaced the GDI drivers, guess that was wrong. Haven't had to play with too many U machines.
