    AR-162 toner indicator

Hello, I have a AR-162 customer placed new toner cartridge and still has toner indicator, the indicator is solid not blinking. Is there a chip that recognizes new toner or is ther a level indicator? When I reboot it checks scan position then that's it, no other rotation happens. I checked the user manual and all it states is unpack and install. I also checked if it was the right cartridge which is a AR-202MTI cartridge. Thanks

Not sure where the mti code indicates, but all of my service manuals state it would take a 201NT toner, or as I assume in your case would be 201mti?

The AR-202NT replaced the AR-201NT for these. There is a chip on the cartridge that would tell the machine it is a new cartridge. Sharp uses the MT designation for cases or quantities of 10. I would guess that this is a generic cartridge if it has the MT1 designation. Sometimes the chip and the socket don't line up so the new cartridge isn't recognized. Pull the cartridge and look inside to see if the socket got knocked out of position. I would think it would have given an error code if the chip was read as being an incorrect chip.

Panthers are known for the plastic toner motor shaft splitting, letting the drive coupler stick in the toner, or just fall off. If you're lucky, the pin, coupler and spring will drop in the bottom of the machine, or you can find the cartridge with the coupler stuck in it. If you're not so lucky, you'll have to order the motor, pin, spring and coupler (new style motor with metal shaft, new style coupler). If the chip has determined low toner, you won't be able to use that cartridge, regardless of how much toner is actually in it.

I agree with Dingo on this one. =^..^=

    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.

    Re: AR-162 toner indicator

Hey, thanks for all your input! I took everyones advice into consideration before going back with a new cartridge! I knew the new one was going to work because it started going through rotation, I could hear the toner being added! The customer must have really ran it low because it took about 5 miniutes to add then came to a stop but still toner light on, so I rebooted the machine and it added for about 30 sec. then came to ready! all is good! Thanks

well it added during the warmup period. I could hear rotation in that area. Not sure why it took so long, must have been low, that's all I can say! This was my first encounter with this particular machine! Still running!

Akitu: I think the AR202MTI designation appears on the carton of 10 AR202NT cartridges. =^..^=
