Question Gemini Plus / Aries shifting to preheat mode too early?

    Hi,

Has anyone had any trouble with either the Gemini Plus or the Aries series shifting to preheat mode too early? We have two cases like this (MX2310U and MX3110N), and the problem is, they're not as readily usable as our customers would like to. We've set both the auto power shut down and the preheat mode to 60 minutes, but these machines seem to lower their temperatures significantly before these timers.

For example, our customer needs their MX2310U to give out instant copies even if the machine has been idle for few minutes. Instead, even a short period of inactivity (about 15 minutes) means that the user has to wait for 20-30 seconds before the copy is printed out. The same problem with printing from PCs. And, as expected, scanning happens instantaneously, so no waiting there. The screen is on and the start button reacts immediately, but after that the waiting begins. And, as said both the preheat mode and the auto power off are set to 60 minutes.

We've also upgraded to the latest firmwares, but to no avail.

    Is this normal? Any insights?

Change your timers to stagger them firstly. I've found setting them for identical times can give some funky results. I have my equipment set up typically as 15/60 power save/shutdown unless the customer requests different timers. Most seem happy with the setup times I've chosen. Even setting your timers to 59/60 will be better than 60/60.

The times your customer seem to be experiencing are about par for the course. Unless there's a job that has just concluded the machine does need to run everything up again before it can spit out a copy. It seems to be more a case of unrealistic expectations of your customer. First copy time statistics can be found in the service manual under specifications. Compare what's being experienced to what the manual says and see if it's grossly inconsistent.

If a customer can't wait those 20-30 seconds then they should have printed 20-30 seconds sooner.

I was given some more information to pass along for you.

A wait time of 30 seconds longer than described in the specifications can be caused by the prior activation of the Curl Correction mode in sim 55-01 & subsequent adjustment of fuser temps accordingly. If the Curl Correction mode is turned on, then no matter what is done with the pre-heat/sleep timers will make any difference. The Curl Correction mode will override these values, and force an additional warmup time when the machine looks like its ready to go.

For printing, the results will not be as quick as if it were paired with a fiery. The print spooler also needs to be taken into consideration. Just because they pressed print, does not mean it will be spat out instantaneously. Various factors like network speed, file size, driver settings, program used and machine options (eg optional print board on the Gemini+ installed or not) will cause all sorts of print speed issues. If the data light starts flashing but is not solid, then machine is still processing data and will continue to look like warming up, but in reality, is just processing data, about to print.

Things that can add delays to print jobs are things like attempting to print a pdf directly from the web browser instead of saving it locally and printing from a pdf based program.

Interesting. I'll have to make sure those timers are not set to the same value. And have to check that curl correction. But, as you said, it's probably just unrealistic expectations.

Well, in any case, thanks a lot for the information!
