My company is a Lanier dealer. When we wanted to pick up another brand, Ricoh, there was already a Ricoh dealer in town. Not wanting to screw someone who had been with them for a long time, Ricoh put Lanier labels on Ricoh copiers and a totally different product line for the local market was born. That other dealer dropped Ricoh years later when they set up with a third company in our town under the Ricoh label.
That same competitor was Konica when we were Minolta, so when they became one, we had 2 KM dealers in town. Then KM set up with our largest competitor, the other Ricoh dealer, putting 3 KM's in town. The dealer that used to be Konica, the one that had been with them the longest, eventually dropped out, I think they are Cannon now.
