Toshiba eStudio 256se very slow startup

    Hello,
I have a 256se and from some time now after being powered off it takes about 30-40minutes to startup.
i find this to be excesive amount of time so I kindly ask for help.

I have a time for periodic maintenance 088 but I have read that this is not problematic.

    Thanks.

Uhgh, it is preatty time consuming obtaining an updated version from Toshiba.

Isnt there something to check before getting to the update bandwagon?

    Like filesystem or related?

    Where I would start is:

    Test/clean/re-seat the memory.
bad sector test on drive or just replace it
clear out the log files on the drive or just replace it.
reload firmware or just load fresh firmware on a fresh drive.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
I have already done a bad sector check and result was ok 08-9072
I have cleared the log files, it was about 30mb
I have the T160SF0W1600 firmware and probably will rewrite it but before this I wanted to make a FS check (5+C+Start) but I have realised that at every power on the copier makes a "system check please do not power off the machine" ... is this normal?

Yes, that is normal and this series of machine takes what seems like forever to come to ready from a cold start and then will seem sluggish for a bit.

1600 is OLD the current is 2140. You have to be careful updating an old machine. There were 3 line ccd's and 4 line ccd's and your not going to be able to jump from 1600 right to 2140. Some of these firmware's did make the machine faster and less likely to kill the hard drive so i recommend you get the necessary bulletins and firmware and update your machine.

I agree with vincent. These machine are very slow due to their hard drives. Be careful not to power off with the hard switch without first pressing the power button on the display . These hard drives die all the time. The new hard drives toshiba started using are lightning fast compared to these ones

Latest 2140 firmware is for T160HD0W2123(L4.7324) or later...

T160HD0W2122 or later F/W included the countermeasure for HDD failure.

On the front right of the copier, you need to look through the copier glass and see if there is a red dot, yellow dot or no dot.

This will determine which firmware to use.

It is a yellow DOT one!
I know this from last time I have recieved the firmware. i was asked for this information and after that I have recieved the correct version.
Could I just replace the hdd with a SATA one?
