| I, personally, have never put a 40gig in a 3511. That might not be sufficient, but I am not for certain.
Anytime you install a new hard drive in one of these machines you must right after installing it do the following.
Hold down C and 3 while powering on. From the menu that appears select 3 from the menu to create the needed partitions.
Install or re-install the firmware. I normally take this opportunity to install the latest firmware. If you know what version is already in the machine, then you only need to re-install the UI and HDD part of the update from the version already installed.
Perform 08 947 and 08 690 (select 2).
On the newer eBridge machines you normally have to do 08-690 prior to the firmware install.
It is recommended to use an 80gig Western Digital HDD, but that is only a recommendation.
